“English is Fun” Two-Day Program (27/7/2024 - 28/7/2024)
Reported by Ms. Yang Xueqin, BA1 student
International Buddhist College (IBC) is offering a weekend English program for all students and staff who want to improve their English in the first semester of the Academic Year 2024/2025. This weekend English program is conducted by volunteers from Malaysia. There are altogether ten sessions in the program from July to September. This weekend English program focuses on Speaking and Writing skills, incorporating grammar into speaking and writing activities. The volunteer teachers will try their best to guide the students on sentence construction which are supposed to be logical, cohesive and rational. At the end of this short program, students are expected to be able to speak coherently and write cohesively.
The first two sessions based on the idea of “English is Fun” were conducted on the first weekend of this semester. In the first part of this program, everyone from the volunteer teachers to the students, introduced themselves or expressed what they wanted to say in English. It was a great opportunity for us to get to know each other and lighten up the atmosphere. Afterwards, we did free-style writing. Then the volunteer teachers divided us into preliminary class and intermediate class according to our speaking and writing abilities.
In the next session, the volunteer teachers took us through one fun game after another playing with English. This included group co-operation activities and inter-group competitions. Obviously, the atmosphere in the classroom was very lively. The majority of the participants enjoyed themselves.
In closing, we would like to express our appreciation and thanks to all the volunteers from Malaysia who have made the program so interesting for us.
