Emotional farewell for new-found friends

In the three days, the twenty-four children who had not known one another before joining the camp have bonded, so strongly that the the last moments of farewell were just too much for the little hearts. They wanted more time together. Parents understood and hugged them tightly.

let's go back to the beginning when it all happened.....

The 3-day program is packed with themes and activities that inculcate Buddhist and universal ethical values in daily living in addition to fun and learning three languages - Thai, Chinese and English.

What's more, the camp is a combined multinational and multitraditional effort . The conveners and facilitators come from Thailand, China and Malaysia of Theravada and Mahayana traditions, ordained and lay, quite a diversity. Our children participants so far are all from Thailand and would be fun for them to meet people from other countries and learn the similarities and differences in nationalities or traditions or cultures. They will have great fun learning and living Buddhist teachings, other belief systes and traditions, and languages. Their parents and guardians will have fun too, and may have moments that are likely to touch each other's heart.

Happy Children Camp........ They had been happy campers, so happy they wanted the time to strecth, to one week (said one)..or two weeks (said another).. so happy that some even forgot their elders (a grandma commented that in the three days here, her grand-daughter stopped looking for grandma - something the grandma found she had to get used to..).

For these three days at least, the twenty-four children experienced building a world together, their own world.. and succeeded at doing it too, with a little help and guidance from their elders.

We'll meet again - next time, we'll be the senior sisters and brothers for the new campers, guiding them along the learning path................ a path you and I and everybody else will help build, on a foundation of correct understanding, that leads towards a world more at peace with diversity in cultures, traditions, beliefs and creeds....
