Course Organization:
Lecture topics covered include:
- Sarvāstivāda Abhidharma: History and Development in Gandhāra and Kaśmīra
- Mahāsāṃghika abhidharma
- The “Heart of Abhidharma
Course Requirements:
The course is organized on lecture basis with active participation from the students expected. Students should attend at least 80% of the classes to be eligible to sit for the final examination. Assessment is based on a viva voce and final written examination.
Allocation of Marks:
- Viva voce: 20%
- Final examination: 80%
Course Objectives:
Students will gain knowledge about non-Theravāda scholasticism and about the origin of East-Asian Buddhism.

All tests, assignments and examinations are graded as follows with grade point and numerical marks:
