Lecture topics covered include:

  • Sarvāstivāda Abhidharma: History and Development in Gandhāra and Kaśmīra
  • Mahāsāṃghika abhidharma
  • The “Heart of Abhidharma
Course Requirements: 

The course is organized on lecture basis with active participation from the students expected. Students should attend at least 80% of the classes to be eligible to sit for the final examination. Assessment is based on a viva voce and final written examination.

Allocation of Marks: 
  • Viva voce: 20%
  • Final examination: 80%
Course Objectives: 

Students will gain knowledge about non-Theravāda scholasticism and about the origin of East-Asian Buddhism.
